From 12 to 21 November 2021, Arman cinema in cooperation with the Kazakhfilm studio hosted the Kazakh New Wave film festival and screened the most significant films in the recent history of the country. For the first time, modern viewers had an opportunity to watch iconic Kazakhstani films on the big screen.

The programme of the festival screened popular films of well known Kazakhstani filmmakers, as well as their rare works that had not been released in wide distribution. The Needle, a gloomy late-Soviet drama directed by Rashid Nugmanov with Victor Tsoi starring; The Fall of Otrar, the Kazakh historical epic film directed by Ardak Amirkulov; Fara, a nostalgic drama in the atmosphere of the nineties directed by Abay Karpykov; Kaïrat, a subtle story of growing up "Kairat”directed by Darezhan Omirbayev, Final Stop, a full-length debut of Serik Aprymov, as well as many other films that have become an important part of the Kazakh New Wave, but undeservedly neglected by the wide audience.

Each day of the festival was dedicated to one of the directors who represented his or her work including a first-line film, as well as the latest one. Some film footages were shown for the first time.⠀

During the festival, in addition to film screenings at Arman cinema, an extensive public programme was prepared for the audience in the Tselinny Temporary public space. There were thematic meetings with the filmmakers, related to the screening of a particular film, as well as they gave master classes for professional audiences.
